5 Tips for Choosing the Best Baby Monitor

Baby monitors can help anxious parents get a good night’s sleep. Firstly, It will help you to detect when he or she cries or makes a fuss in the bed.

So you know if it’s time for your baby to breastfeed, if he or she needs a new diaper, or if she’s complaining of the way back to Snooze Town. (That can be pretty lovable to look at too.)

Monitors can offer a variety of extra features, from high-definition video displays to wireless connectivity to tablets or other devices.

Consider this article as a guide to what are the important things to focus on in baby monitors.

You might worry that you’re too far away from the infant as you are sleeping.

There are various kinds of baby monitors on sale, therefore choosing the most acceptable baby monitor could be challenging.

Some products are more expensive than others because of their functions.

Opting for a model that emits few waves, buying it second hand and using it well, here are some tips for choosing the best baby monitor under 100$

Many baby monitors are now packed with functions. The catch? Prices that take off, a heavier environmental impact, and above all high wave emissions.

But babies are more sensitive than adults to electromagnetic waves. So how do you choose the right baby monitor?

Summary:

  1. Opt for an analog model
  2. Prefer an audio-only baby monitor
  3. Choose a digital baby monitor with “eco” or “vox” mode
  4. Give preference to a baby monitor on the mains
  5. Buy the second-hand baby monitor

1. Opt for an analog model

There are still analog baby monitors. They emit non-pulsed waves, which are less problematic for health. On the other hand, they are subject to interference and are not equipped with video.

It is not the best choice if you live in a building with a lot of babies because you risk hearing the neighbors’ children. However, some models allow you to choose the transmission frequency, which limits the risks.

2. Prefer an audio-only baby monitor

If you choose a digital baby monitor, you have the choice between audio-only models or videophones (with video, therefore). A videophone emits more waves during use than an audio model.

We, therefore, prefer an audio-only baby monitor. Otherwise, if you want a video baby monitor, you choose a model that does not emit continuously. (See next point)

3. Choose a digital baby monitor with “eco” or “vox” mode

Several brands of digital baby monitors equip their devices with “eco” or “vox” modes.

These options reduce the emission of waves:

  • The “vox” (or “voice activation”) mode cuts the airwaves when the baby monitor is not in use. The device “wakes up” when it detects a sound.
  • The “eco” mode is useful when the baby monitor and the receiver are close together. The transmission power is adjusted according to the distance.

The ideal is to combine the two.

4. Give preference to a baby monitor on the mains

If the baby monitor is plugged into the mains, no batteries or a battery are needed.

Do we prefer a wireless version? We then check:

  • if it is a battery-powered version, that the baby monitor can work with rechargeable batteries;
  • If it is a version with battery, that it is removable and that it can be found in spare parts.

Finally, some baby monitors can operate both on batteries AND on mains. In this case, check that the AC adapter is supplied with it!

5. Buy the second-hand baby monitor

A baby monitor cannot be used for many, many years. They are easily found second-hand through their knowledge, on online sales sites, in second-hand shops, or even during the Family League scholarships.

It is ecological because it extends the life of the device and avoids the manufacture of a new one. It is also economical: there is a second-hand baby monitor from € 10 while it is necessary to count € 45 for a new one.
