Continuing Education Credits approved by ARRT/ ASRT

Every year, coinciding with the end of every CE biennium and at the time of renewal of registration with ARRT (The American Registry of Radioactive Technologists), every Radiologic Technologist (RT) is under mandatory obligation to earn and report minimum of 24 A or A+ CE (continuing education) credits (ARRT CE credits). This 24 credits is irrespective of any number of ARRT certificates, held by an individual. Technologies are getting advanced and job responsibilities are changing. To ensure that the RTs get updated knowledge and skills in the fields of radiation therapy, medical imaging and interventional procedures coping with the latest developments and maintain competence in the respective category of their certification, continuing education requirements are made compulsory. Another purpose of the CE credits is that it reinforces the standard Code of Ethics, which the ARRT and ASRT (The American Society of Radiologic Technologists have jointly endorsed.

Radiologic technologists at work The biennium for CE is the two years that ends as on the last day of the month, just proceeding the month of the individual RT. An already registered RT desiring for registering in additional disciplines may maintain their original schedule, based on his/ her first certification for CE reporting.

Such ARRT CE credits may be earned by getting through any additional ARRT examination, approved by ARRT or by accumulating the same by completing the ARRT approved educational activities under category A or A+. The approved activities include those approved by the RCEEMs (recognized CE Evaluation Mechanisms) Advanced CPR certifications through American Heart Association or American Red Cross or American Safety and Health Institute or relevant academic courses through regionally accredited colleges/ universities.

For getting a variety of CE credits, there are institutions conducting unique and affordable paperless online courses, which are quality checked and have approval of ASRT/ ARRT. Timing is the essence of reporting the CE credits. So, the RTs have to take steps sufficient early.
