Three Amazing Attractions to See in the Detroit Area

Although Detroit may have come upon some hard times in the last few years, it is still quite an amazing city to visit. Once called the Paris of the Midwest, Detroit has some really incredible architecture and charm that is hard to find in a number of other great American cities.

So, if you have been looking for a vacation spot that is a bit off the beaten path, consider the greater Detroit area, it has a number of wonderful activities to offer. From sports, to some nature, and even farmers markets, you will find plenty of things to do in Detroit that you might not have known were available!

Sports

One of the best things about Detroit, of course, are the sports. Home to three incredible teams, the Red Wings, Tigers, and Lions, Detroit offers any visitor the ability to see some really amazing sports upon visiting. You shouldn’t leave any visit in Detroit without catching at least one game, especially for the famed Red Wings hockey team, or the perennial American League champs the Detroit Tigers.

Festivals

The Detroit area is also home to some amazing festivals that bring in people from across the country so be sure to book a local hotel room early. The first being the world famous Detroit International Jazz Festival, which brings people in from all over the world to listen. Also quite popular is the North American International Auto Show, which showcases the best of new cars each year.

Museums

Detroit is no stranger to some great museums either. Many visitors to the city spend hours wandering through the exhibits showcased at the Detroit Institute of Arts, with over an 100 different, amazing exhibit halls, it is one of the biggest in the country. The area is also home to the Charles Wright Museum of African American History as well.

Belle Isle

For a feeling like you have left the city and are into the country, head to Belle Isle. This island is located just a few miles from the center of Detroit, and yet feels like it really is a world away. From there you will be able to stroll along the shores of the island and have picture perfect views of both Detroit and the nearby city of Hamilton, Ontario.

Detroit Eastern Market

For those who love getting outside and strolling through a local farmers market, consider visiting the Detroit Eastern Market. Open during the summer on the weekend, this market will showcase all of the best many of the local farmers and artisans have to offer. Grab some snacks and be sure to stroll over to the nearest park to have an afternoon picnic.

Taking some time to visit the greater Detroit area is going to let you take in all of the best that Detroit has to offer. Between the amazing sports and beautiful beaux arts design of the city center, you will leave being very impressed with the area and happy you took the time to visit.
